Multi-platinum selling artist Justin Moore has elicited the help of fast-rising newcomer, Priscilla Block on his new radio single, ‘You, Me and Whiskey– available now here.

Multi-platinum selling artist Justin Moore has elicited the help of fast-rising country newcomer Priscilla Block for his next radio single, “You, Me, And Whiskey.” Written by Jessi Alexander, Brock Berryhill and Cole Taylor, the track continues to round out Moore’s signature neo-traditional twang, set to lyrics that retain a classic country twist.

“You read ‘You, Me, and Whiskey,’ and you think spring break, hookup, whatever, but for me, as a guy who’s been married for 15 years with four beautiful children, it’s about making time for your romantic relationship,” shares Moore. “Our children are priorities in our lives, but we also have to make ‘us’ a priority. That’s what the song represents to me but the best thing about Country music is that it can mean many things to many different people.” Anyone can relate to it because it’s about taking time to work on the things you really need to as a person and in your relationships,” adds Block.

Produced by Jeremy Stover and Scott Borchetta, the single follows Moore’s most recent track “With A Woman You Love,” a song that earned the Arkansas native his 11th No. 1 on US Country radio and serves as the second preview of what fans can expect from Moore’s sixth studio album, due 2023 via The Valory Music Co..

Both artists are currently on the road throughout October.

On Friday, Priscilla Block will release her debut album – Welcome to the Block Party. Here, we review the album and give our verdict on the new offering from one of the freshest voices in country music right now. Listen to the album here

Priscilla Block is part of a new vanguard of artists who have moved from viral TikTok success to a label deal and numerous accolades and accomplishments. In 2020, Block rose to prominence, after years grafting in the Nashville music industry, honing her songwriting craft and playing any gig she could get her hands on. When the pandemic hit, Block turned to TikTok to fill the time, posting songs like ‘Thick Thighs’ and ‘PMS,’ and earning a legion of fans – her ‘Block Party.’ ‘Just About Over You’ –  a song about her ex-boyfriend – was the song that changed it all, rushing to number one on the all-genre charts as a song that showed her true heart. That track led to her record deal and a self-titled EP. This Friday, Block will release her debut album Welcome to the Block Party that showcases her fresh and rowdy, yet tender, take on country pop and southern rock.

This debut album ratchets up the promise that Block nodded at on her debut EP, weaving the sassy hilarity of ‘Thick Thighs’ with the heart-rending magic of ‘Like A Boy’ to showcase a more mature and accomplished artist with immense promise. What is clear above all is that Block has got ‘it’ when it comes to songwriting, with the clever turns of lyrics that are reminiscent of an early Taylor Swift. Indeed, the intro track ‘Welcome To The Block Party’ that fuses together different segments from live news tapes feels like a positive spin on Swift’s ‘Reputation’ era tour intro.

‘My Bar’ is the lead-out single from the project and shows just how far Block has come from ‘Just About Over You.’ On that track, she dwelt on the emotions that she felt when she ran into an ex in a bar by happenstance, now Block shows how ‘over’ him she is as she marks her territory – her bar. ‘Don’t even buy that round / Just stop before you start / Go to your side of town / It really ain’t that far / This is my bar.’

Similarly, Block continues her journey of female empowerment and embracing her own sexuality on ‘Heels in Hand,’ ‘A drink in my hand / Leads to an old nightstand / Leaving with nothing more than, nothing more than / Heels, heels in hand.’ She seems to take ownership of her own decisions, revelling in her own life in this gloriously joyous and anthemic track.

There is still much here for those that fell in love with Block for the heartbreak of ‘Just About Over You’ – ‘Like A Boy’ is an easy stand-out as Block deplores the immaturity and casual cruelty of men. ‘Ain’t it just like you / To give up way too soon / It’s just what you do / You take off without a damn thing to say / Ain’t it like a boy to walk away.’ It’s a massive piano ballad, dripping with easy emotion that Block pours into her massive vocal. ‘I Know a Girl’ featuring and co-written by the indomitable Hillary Lindsey is a beautifully controlled track about self-love and resilience in the face of hardship. ‘But I know a girl who finally learned to love herself / Without needing someone else to make things better / And I hear her talking to me in the mirror.’ It’s a song that is beautiful in its simplicity, both lyrically and on production. The final big new ballad on the project is ‘I’ve Gotten Good,’ a polished co-write with Liz Rose and Phil Barton, where Block sings about how good she has got at faking being over a break-up. These trio of ballads point to the real depth and potential of Block and it’s pretty immense.

These ideas of resilience and empowerment are brought in on some of the bigger tracks, like ‘Ever Since You Left.’ This is a big and bold track, with tight lyrics and production as Block sings about moving on from a former lover, party-style. ‘Everything’s gone right / Ever since you left.’ More than anything, the track is immense fun and tips its hat to the kind of sassy and snappily fun tracks that we have come to expect from Block since ‘Thick Thighs.’ This last follows and is a more polished version of the track that drove TikTok crazy. It’s hilarious, brazenly honest and shows Block as an artist who simply couldn’t care less what the critics think – it is this very idea that will earn her the most loyal fans. ‘You can’t spell ‘diet’ without ‘die / ‘I’ve been eatin’ carbs since ’95 / And I’ve heard thick thighs save lives.’  This idea is central to Block’s appeal, as she herself says, ‘I’ll never try and be something that I am not, and I let that be known on social media… I show my highs, my lows, I show myself put together and falling apart. I talk about my body and being a curvy girl. I think it’s so important for fans to really know me.’

The final track on the album – ‘Peaked In High School’ – shows the real power of Block, her immense likeability. In this stripped back track, Block showcases her vocal in a track that should make any haters from high school hide their faces. It’s hugely reminiscent of ‘Fat and Famous’ by Ashley McBryde and serves as a massive middle finger to those who thought she wouldn’t make it. Underneath the humour and the clever lyrics, there’s real emotion. That’s the real power of Block – to infuse sarcasm and sass with real palpable emotion, in a fresh and exciting new sound.

Rising country star Priscilla Block has announced the release of her debut album, Welcome To The Block Party, that will be released on 11th February. Welcome To The Block Party follows last year’s six-song self-titled Priscilla Block EP – the highest-performing country female debut EP of 2021. I wrote all of these songs from a real and raw place, and I am grateful that I have the opportunity to show various aspects of where I’ve been and who I am. Everyone knows that I love a good bar, so ‘My Bar’ felt a perfect place to kick off the new record!! Welcome to the Block Party Baby!!!!

Priscilla Block has shared her new song ‘Peaked in High School’ out everywhere now. The release follows the news that Block was named Opry NextStage Artist for November.

Mercury Nashville rising star Priscilla Block has released her latest song “Peaked In High School” for all of those who feel more grateful the school years are over than thanks for the good time. Written by Block with Sarah Jones, Josh Beale and Kate Hasting, Block taps into her high school years, feeling on the outside and coming to grips with friends who turned “too cool” – but Block executes the song with her playful, signature wink. Block offers a glimpse of those formative years incorporating her own photos into the yearbook-inspired lyric video.

“I was the girl that had no interest in doing things how everybody else did them,” Block shares with PEOPLE. “This song kinda just goes out to anybody that that’s ever made me feel not enough. And to any young people out there, people tell you that high school will be some of the best years of your life. I am living proof that it is not. I wish I knew that back in the day. I would have saved so many fricking tears.”

Known for her relatable, candid lyrics, Block continues to prove to that her best years are still ahead. She released her self-titled major label debut earlier this year and is currently one of CMT’s Next Women of Country, is November’s Opry NextStage featured artist, has her smash single “Just About Over You” climbing country radio airplay charts, and earned critical praise including American Songwriter which notes, “Priscilla’s songs emanate authenticity, making others feel they have a place at the table, and someone new to relate to.”Block has toured with Ashley McBryde, Dierks Bentley, Jon Pardi and more, and this Saturday, Nov. 6, she plays the Grand Ole Opry. Priscilla Block has had a mammoth year – going viral on TikTok and signing with Universal Music Group, before releasing her self-titled EP. Here, we talk to Priscilla Block about the project and her year so far.

Hello, hello. How are you? How are things in Nashville at the moment?

I’m so good. We’re getting back to playing some live shows, there’s definitely still a lot of restrictions but it’s starting to turn the corner.

It must be kind of crazy – obviously, before you went into the pandemic things hadn’t quite exploded and now you’re in this position where things are going back live but you’ve had this massive success over the past year. It must be a lot to wrap your head around?

It is. A year ago at this point, I didn’t know if I was getting anywhere with my music and I didn’t know if I was going to have to leave Nashville – I didn’t know what was going to happen. It’s so cool to see – last year was a year where I was just figuring out how to work, even though I wasn’t able to work, I was putting all of my energy into social media. It’s great to see that now I’m going to get to meet the people that have been behind their phones that have seen me online. I’m really excited.

With this whole project what I loved the most about it was how authentic it was, it’s so real. I think part of that has got to be the fact that you wrote a lot with your friends. You seem to have established that really close knit friendship with the Nashville songwriters, I like that you’ve written it with the people who have been a part of your journey.

Yeah, it was really important to me, it wasn’t a question of not wanting to write with certain people – it just happened that the songs I loved were the ones I’d written with some of my best friends. I’m not naive enough to know that not everybody gets this shot. It’s really cool for me to show the people that I really believe in – my producers – that I did it. They had never worked on a project like this and it’s just cool for all of us to kind of be on the journey together.

A lot of this started with you going viral on TikTok. Did you have a plan going in to using the app or was it a question of just figuring it out as you went along?

A lot of people have asked me ‘how do you figure out TikTok? What was the plan?’ When I got on TikTok, I thought it was a dancing app, so I had no clue. I never thought it was going to be the place that my music took off. I just started started posting a lot of my original songs that I had had for years and it just worked.

Currently, one of those songs that was a huge part of that was ‘Just About Over You.’ It’s done amazing things, I think it’s just so real – something we can all relate to – that just feeling of just being like, ‘dammit, why do you have to come back now?’

It’s crazy the reaction that song had. I mean hundreds of fans all over the world crowdfunded me to be able to record that song. It’s such a special song for me and makes you realise that there are such good people in the world.

Even though it came from heartbreak and from pain, some good came out of it.

I’m really thankful for that heartbreak really.

It’s amazing how you can turn that around. Obviously, having it crowdfunded also makes it that much more meaningful, because you’ve had people be part of the journey from the beginning, which is kind of an amazing thing.

Yeah, it definitely exciting. I feel like I’ve always wanted to do music for me, but I do music to reach people and let people I don’t know feel understood or whatever. I don’t see a point of really doing music if other people can’t be on that journey with me. I really try to keep the fans involved with everything, whether it’s showing what I’m doing in my everyday life, or letting them vote on cover art.

They’re going to be engaging with it much more – being a part of the journey in a very real way rather than just being fans.

Exactly.

I mean, there’s a lot of pain in this this project in a beautiful way – you know from ‘I Bet You Wanna Know’ to ‘Just About Over You’ to ‘Sad Girls Do Sad Things,’ just because everyone’s been there but what does that song mean to you? Can you talk about the evolution of that song in particular?

I feel like ‘Sad Girls Do Sad Things’ was a song that I had to write for myself. It’s almost like the acceptance or forgiveness, that I needed to give myself. I wasn’t even going to put it on the project and as I was just looking at the songs that I had, I felt like I’m such a girl that puts everything out there and people are always like, ‘I feel like I know you’ and I want that. That song was important for me to put on the project to show that I have gone through some really, really sad times in my life. I can be the life of the party or I can go through sad times – people needed to see that side of me too. I think it was a song that girls need – just because you go through a breakup and you make mistakes, it doesn’t make you a bad person.

No, it normalizes pain, and it normalizes all the crap that we all go through.

But I love that you love that song, because it’s one of my favourites.

It’s definitely one of my favourites. Talking about the EP as a whole, obviously ‘Thick Things’ was another huge moment for you and getting to this project was it a big decision to leave that track off? How hard was it to choose the songs?

With ‘Thick Thighs’ and ‘PMS’ and the songs that I already have out, I felt like they had the moment to be put out in the world when they did. It was important for me to show people more of who I am and that’s why I left it off the EP. I think it was important for people to be able to dive a little bit deeper.

I know that there is definitely a trend at the moment to put the same songs on projects, and it was nice to see even more material on there.

Exactly. And I’m the same way – when I hear that somebody is releasing an album, I hope that I haven’t heard half the songs.

I get the strategy but everyone’s always hungry for more music, so I love that you rounded it out to introduce yourself. Obviously this EP was self titled so what did you want fans to take away from the project?

I want to just show people all sides of me, like the sappy, the trashiness and the sad girl side – that is me as a whole. I wanted people to feel understood and that was why I chose the songs that I did – it’s very me and where I’m at right now in my life.

Well, we loved it, absolutely loved it. You’ve been in the Nashville community now for about six years, so what lessons have you learned being in Nashville this whole time?

I have learned that you got to work and there’s people that have been working longer than I have – my mom always told me when I was little that someone will outwork you and there’s going to be so many roadblocks. You really have to do it for the love of music, not for anything else. I love creating music. I love performing and there’s nothing in the world that I want to do more than that. So I’ve just held on to that – being able to hear other people’s stories and putting myself around such talented people – that inspires me to be better.

I think that’s one of the things that is really special about the country music community in particular – obviously talent is a huge part of it but people also celebrate how much work people put in and how many years it’s taken and the kind of dedication and commitment it takes as much as talent itself. They always say, it takes many years to make an overnight success. It’s been so lovely to speak to you today and congratulations on all your successes.

Thanks.

Rising country artist Priscilla Block has been drawing listeners in with her unfiltered, relatable songwriting and catchy melodies. Tomorrow, she will release her debut self-titled EP that shows the multi-faceted artistry of Block and just why she has been tipped as one to watch by the likes of Amazon Music, The Boot, Pandora and more. Pre-save the EP here.

Priscilla Block EP

Priscilla Block has been one of the hottest new names to know in 2020, due to her relatability both on social media and in her authentic and honest songwriting. Tomorrow, she will add to her catalogue with the release of her debut self-titled EP. The project puts self-love, empowerment and acceptance at the forefront, blending country pop and southern rock in her signature ‘Block Party’ sound.

The project opens with ‘Wish You Were the Whiskey’ – a track about drowning heartache in alcohol, to no avail. ‘Now I’m all alone and your memory’s hanging over / I should’ve known better than to think I could trade one for the other.’ It’s an immensely emotive, hell-raising rock track that sets the stage for Block’s vision for the rest of the project. Following track ‘Just About Over You’ was the mammoth intro for many country fans to this bold singer, about nearly being over someone just to see them again and experience heartbreak all over again. ‘Why’d you have to come back in right then / Right when I was just getting good and gone? / Guess I was in the wrong place at the wrong time / You must’ve heard I was moving on.’ The songwriting here is intensely vulnerable and compelling, positioning Block as an artist who is not afraid to ‘go there.’

By contrast, ‘Heels in Hand,’ is a fun girl-power track comparing high heels to a man. ‘I should walk away, throw you both away / Maybe broken in’s just broken / Like me and you.’ There’s a wit that should not be overshadowed by the slightly more bubbly production, though it is personally the weakest of the tracks on this EP before leading into – in my opinion – the strongest lyrical moment on the project. ‘Sad Girls Do Sad Things’ gives a needed breather. It’s a heartbreakingly raw and real portrayal of the mess left after a break-up – mistakes and all. ‘When you hurt this bad / You’ll do anything to get back to that high you had / Even though you know it’s over / And what’s passed is past / Am I low or am I lonely / All I know is that this ain’t who I wanna be / I guess sad girls do sad things.’ The honesty of this track is raw and real as that on Carly Pearce’s 29 – opening her heart up to her audience – and Block allows her vocal to breathe in the more stripped back track that showcases its unique qualities.

The final tracks on the project bring back the more rock-edge sound that kicked off the project. ‘Bad Part of Good’ twists the idea of the ‘good guy’ as the ones that can ultimately cause the most damage. ‘It’s gonna hurt like hell in the morning as it should / That’s the bad part of good.’  ‘I Bet You Wanna Know,’ by contrast, tells the story about an ex-lover wanting to know where she’s now at romantically. ‘I bet you wanna know where I’m at tonight / If I’m all up on someone new I like.’ It’s the song form of a wink and shows the confidence that earned her the legion of TikTok fans that have enabled her to get to where she currently is – a fitting end to the project.

As Block herself says of the EP – “This EP is such a vulnerable side of who I am and where I’ve been… It’s my story of falling apart in order to find myself again. I hope that when you hear these songs, they make you feel that it’s ok to not be perfect and realize that sometimes we need the lows to value the highs… AND ONCE YOU REGAIN THAT CONFIDENCE… LET IT SHOW BABY!” It’s a project that is authentic and heart-achingly real, infused with joy and gutsy empowerment that make it immensely engaging as a project in its entirety – revealing all the sides of Block and her music and proving just why she is one of the names to watch. In this project, she not only shows the direction of her own artistry but of the country genre in general, imbibing a new sonic diversity while retaining the core of raw and honest songwriting.
