Mitchell Tenpenny has revealed the tracklist for his new album – This Is The Heavy – out on 16th September, featuring his new song ‘Always Something With You’ that is out now.

Last week, Mitchell Tenpenny was recognised by his label for reaching over One Billion streams on his first triple-platinum plaque for break-out debut single ‘Drunk Me’, a Gold plaque for his debut album Telling All My Secrets and a Gold plaque for current Top 10 smash single ‘Truth About You‘. During the event, Mitchell shared details about his new 20-track album, This Is The Heavy, due out on September 16th, 2022. The powerhouse vocalist co-wrote every song and co-produced the project with Jordan M. Schmidt. On Friday (Aug 5) Mitchell revealed the full track listing along with a new song from the album, ‘Always Something With You’.

Pre-order/pre-add/pre-save This Is The Heavy and listen to ‘Always Something With You’ here.

Mitchell titled the album This Is The Heavy because the production packs a punch. “It’s big. It’s loud. It’s in your face and drum heavy,” Mitchell said. The project finds its own lane between a little bit country, and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, and is without a doubt meant to be turned up. When describing the sound of the album, Mitchell laughingly coined a new genre: ‘Farm Emo.’

This Is The Heavy is also heavy in the sense that the lyrics have weight. Within these songs are the stories behind both good and bad memories – exciting times in his life and ones that were tougher to get through. With this album Mitchell finds himself grown up and in a new phase of life as a touring musician, family man and soon-to-be married man. Balancing it all can get heavy. With equal parts highs and lows intertwined by clever lyrics and Mitchell’s distinctive sound with a bit of extra edge, This Is The Heavy is a project Mitchell wants his fans to get lost in, and find themselves in.

The album includes his hit single, ‘Truth About You’, which he debuted on TikTok. The song instantly became the highest streaming debut of his career with 2.5 million streams in the first three days.

Mitchell Tenpenny and Danny Gokey have teamed up for a new version of ‘Bucket List,’ available everywhere now here.

Hitmaker Mitchell Tenpenny has enlisted the help of Grammy-nominated performer Danny Gokey on a new version of his smash hit ‘Bucket List.’ The two artists connected through a mutual friend and spar it out with their powerhouse vocals on the refreshed track. The song, written by Mitchell, Chris DeStefano and Laura Veltz, was originally released one year ago on New Year’s Day 2021. The original version is included in Mitchell’s current EP Midtown Diaries that was released in September. Alongside the release, the pair have released a music video, filmed at the Melrose Church at Fiddlers Grove in Wilson County, Tenn. The film was shot with Director Tristan Cusick.

“‘Bucket List’ is about trying to live everyday like it’s your last. You never know how long you have on this earth, so you need to try and live it to the fullest,” shared Mitchell. “I’ve been a big fan of Danny’s for a long time, his voice is so incredible. And even though this song has been out for a while now, I felt he could bring the song to the Christian music community, and I knew no one else could do it better. He’s completely changed this song. I’m honoured and grateful he would do this with me.” “I love the sentiment of the song and love the lyrics,” said Danny. “I hope that people absorb the lyrics and start living life like never before.”

Mitchell Tenpenny will release his 11-song Christmas album – Naughty List – this Friday, with physical copies set to be released in the UK on 3rd December.

Mitchell Tenpenny will release his first holiday album – Naughty List – this Friday. Produced by Mitchell, Jordan M. Schmidt and Lindsay Rimes, Naughty List contains all seven songs on Mitchell’s Neon Christmas EP released in 2020, as well as four additional tracks including two originals co-written by Mitchell, ‘Don’t Hang The Mistletoe’ and ‘I Hope It Snows.’ Of the project, Tenpenny shares, I love all Christmas music.. It always brings me back to my childhood and sharing the holidays with my family. ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ is probably my favourite of all time. Makes me think of sitting by the fire and watching Christmas movies. But I love that I was able to write a few new songs that are included too!”

The project infuses an easy groove into the well-worn classics, brought to life through Tenpenny’s signature, honeyed vocal. ‘Neon Christmas’ opens the project, a jovially, thrumming track couched in swirling, festive production, as Tenpenny sings about enjoying Christmas at the bar down the street while he’s stranded in the snow. ‘‘Cause there’s a bar down the street that’s calling our name / Get some holiday spirits, baby, what do you say?’ Although released last year, the track is still as fresh as it was in the first re-telling, a surprise delight of a holiday original.

The project is filled with sultry tracks that avoid cliche territory. ‘Snow Angels’ is brought to life background touches of Christmas production, rather than hitting you full in the face as Tenpenny sings to a lover about enjoying Christmas inside together. ‘Start a fire in here instead / Maybe we can pour some wine / There ain’t no closing time / Get the sheets all tangled / We can make snow angels / I’m never leaving this room.’ It’s tastefully done and provides another side to Naughty List as a record, avoiding cheesy territory that is so easily a trap on holiday albums. The title track is another lingering, lazily grooving melody and love letter, as he sings about not being able to resist a lover. ‘I’m gon’ end up on the naughty list / And Santa’s gonna take back all my gifts / With kisses sweeter than the cookies / That we left out by the chimney / Tell me, baby, how could I resist?’ It’s a sultry and honeyed track that provides another welcome addition to a string of Christmas classics. The two unreleased originals on the record, ‘Don’t Hang The Mistletoe’ and ‘I Hope It Snows’ follow a similar vein. The former about his inability to resist a lover, ‘If you want to leave the house this Christmas / Don’t Hang the Mistletoe.’ It’s a beautifully, light-hearted track brought to life by a delicately done production and delivered with Tenpenny’s signature vocal. The latter is a delightful duet with girlfriend Megan Patrick about wishing for snow on Christmas day and taking a partner home for Christmas. It’s the stand-out track on the project and is a phenomenal addition.

Tenpenny rounds out the project with some well-chosen covers including ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,’ ‘Let It Snow!’, ‘Joy To The World’ and ‘O Holy Night.’ Again, the production, heavier on guitars than most Christmas projects, avoids saccharine territory – no easy feat in the realm of holiday records, and is a welcome addition to the country Christmas repertoire.

Southern swaggering and edgy country singer-songwriter RaeLynn has today released her sophomore album – Baytown. Stream the record here.

RaeLynn’s path in Nashville has not been easy or linear – since her stint on The Voice back in 2012, she has had record deals with Warner Music for her debut record Wild Horse and Republic Nashville, before ending up in her new label home Round Here Records for the release of her new record Baytown out everywhere today. During that time, RaeLynn has worked hard to carve out her path in the genre that sits somewhere outside the current Nashville landscape – it seems fitting then that she has ended up in the label home of country outliers Florida Georgia Line, who’s sound has always been the subject of debate and criticism as much as praise. From that base, RaeLynn seems to have unleashed the full force of the sound that she was always meant to create and that we only saw glimpses of on Wild Horse.

Baytown brims with joy in every note. So on opening track, ‘Keep Up,’ RaeLynn celebrates being a country girl. ‘Country boys sure know how to have fun / But let me show you how a country girl gets it done y’all.’ It’s a swaggering, funky and fun track that feels original as hell, but above all it is clear that RaeLynn is creating the exact music she wants to create and is revelling in the joy of that moment. This Texan larger-than-life persona is not abandoned after the final track but is carried through in the rest of the album’s upbeat tracks, nowhere more so than on ‘Judgin’ To Jesus.’ In this last, RaeLynn unleashes a powerful middle finger to the trolls and critics, in a track about acceptance. ‘If you keep a bible by your cigarettes / If you go to church in a cheetah dress… Don’t worry, honey round here / We leave the judging to Jesus.’ The production is simply on fire on this track, infused with a golden segment of gospel that elevates the track to something special. Later track ‘Bra Off’ offers another delightfully fun track, where RaeLynn joyfully dances out the toxins of a break-up. ‘I should be crying grieving some kind of loss / But it’s like taking this / Pink and Lacey / Suffocating Bra off.‘ It’s the ultimate  girl power anthem for anyone going through a hard time and is anthemic in feel, as is final upbeat track ‘Rowdy’ – a honky-tonkin, boot-stomping track that is a fun, good-natured romp.

RaeLynn has aptly teamed up with some of country’s biggest male vocals on the project, amping up the Southern vibes further on the project. So, on ‘Get That All The Time’ she teams up with Mitchell Tenpenny, for a track that drips with Southern swagger as the pair trade off vocals with ease, complimenting each each other on the attention they must both get. It’s a track that feels immensely current, with superbly delivered production – a genre-defying single. Elsewhere RaeLynn teams up with her old The Voice mentor – Blake Shelton on ‘Why I Got A Truck’ for a bombastic, rough and ready single. Though the pair’s vocals meld perfectly, it seeks to dampen the gravity of Baytown, particularly given its sequencing right after ‘She Chose Me.’

There are moments of real humble country music on the record, like ‘Small Town Prayer’ that show the heart of RaeLynn, celebrating small town and quiet lives. ‘And it all sounds simple coming off our lips / ’cause we’re so little and He’s so big / Can’t find it in the bible, but Lord I swear / Nothing hits heaven like a small-town prayer.’ The vocals on this track are unparalleled, brimming with charm and she somehow manages to breathe fresh air into this somewhat over-done trope in country music. Indeed, she returns to the theme on ‘Only in a Small Town’ that moves with a dripping, easy swagger as RaeLynn sings about the unique qualities of a small town, with a joking ease only able to be delivered by those who know small-town life inside and out. ‘Only in a small town / Does your ex-boyfriend get locked up / And knock up your best girl friend.’ It’s a joyful, triumphantly ‘red neck’ track that again manages to fall just outside of cliche territory.

Still RaeLynn can bring the tempo down a notch. Indeed, the result is flawless when she does. ‘Still Smoking’ is a quietly swaggering track about long-lasting passion. ‘Yeah, y’all let me tell ya ’bout a summer fling / That turned to a flame / That’s gonna last forever.’ There is a quiet intensity to the energy generated by this track. ‘Neon Cowgirl’ offers a more mature direction to her music as RaeLynn  offers older sisterly advice. ‘Hey, neon cowgirl / I’ve been there too / I’ve been on that bar stool / I’ve been in those boots / More times than I can count, girl / And it don’t end well / It’s fun for a while / But it’s a dead-end trail.’ More than this though, her tender and thoughtfully written ballads dive into interesting topics that are hugely palatable, where RaeLynn does not hide her authenticity under bombastic production. ‘Fake Girl Town’ ‘Ain’t it funny how girls in their twenties / Still go to the bathroom just talk some shit / And come right back and snap a pic with me / Yeah, I’m over it.’ It’s a raw and real track, showcased by the more stripped back production that tells the story of a yearning for ‘real girls.’ It’s a brave track lyrically which makes it all the more engaging. Elsewhere, ‘Me About Me’ is one of the standouts from the record, a gorgeously engaging track about wanting more from a relationship – attention to be paid. ‘Always waiting for a / “Hey, babe how was your day” / After you laid your day on me / When I found out that’s not gonna happen / That’s when I knew we weren’t meant to be.’ The track gives you a sense of RaeLynn’s heart, which makes it immensely engaging and charming, stripping the production back to let her vocal soar. Most raw and real is the stunning story song, ‘She Chose Me,’ a story about her mother choosing to give birth to her, after her conception in a motel with a man not her husband. ‘If it went the other way, nobody would have blamed her / Think of all the small town town talk it would have saved her… But she chose me.’ It’s an almost painfully raw and honest track and makes it an easy stand-out on Baytown, relatable in its specificity and real in its honesty, a beautifully done story song. The final track then is as heart-wrenching as they come – a beautiful accompanying moment to ‘She Chose Me’ – a song for her newly-born daughter, ‘Made For Me To Love,’ as she sings about her maternal love even before she was born.

Under the mentorship and guidance of her new label home, RaeLynn has unleashed the full force of the sound that she was always meant to create. Baytown feels like a no holds barred view into what she is about as an artist both sonically and lyrically. More than anything else, the record is immensely ‘fun’ – a record that channels the vibrance of her live set interspersed with tracks of great depth and honesty. Baytown is a unique project that feels like a wholly charming outlier on the country scene, a place that many artists feel afraid to go right now. It is a delight that beckons in a new, wholly authentic era of her music, one couched in heavy, current production but retaining her Texan heart.

Riser House / Columbia Nashville artist Mitchell Tenpenny has gone from strength to strength in the last several years, since the release of his breakout single ‘Drunk Me.’ Now, he is set to release his new EP – Midtown Diaries – out this Friday 10th September. Pre-order/pre-save the project here.

Since the release of his debut single, “Drunk Me,” Riser House/Columbia Nashville artist Mitchell Tenpenny’s career has rocketed, setting records for breakout success in country music with apparent ease – the hit was certified 2X Platinum and amassed over 500 million on-demand streams, earning him the best first week showing for any major label country debut LP. Since that time, Tenpenny was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards and Breakthrough Video (“Drunk Me”) at the CMT Music Awards and saw his “Alcohol You Later” and “Anything She Says” singles certified gold. This week, he returns with his new EP – Midtown Diaries that continues his mammoth, stadium-ready sound.

‘To Us It Did’ kicks off the project, Tenpenny’s gravelly vocal entering centre stage, tripping off the tongue as he looks back nostalgically. It’s a track made for a live iteration as is ‘I Can’t Love You Any More’ which hits a decent groove that showcases the texture of his vocal. Elsewhere, Tenpenny is able to posit the more tender side of his artistry on tracks such as ‘Good Thing,’ a surprisingly romantic and warmly honeyed track. Though the lyrics are not as strong as some of his previous material, sonically it is rich and anthemic.

The middle section of the EP is without doubt the strongest. ‘Bucket List’ – already released as a single – is one of the stronger lyrical tracks on Midtown Diaries. ‘I’ma cross one off, put two more on it / Say, “I love you” ‘fore the moment’s gone / And never have to ask myself, “What if” / When I get to the bottom of my bucket list.’ It’s a track brimming with charm and emotion, delivered through Tenpenny’s signature vocal. ‘Truth About You,’ however, details the idea of two perspectives on a break-up and the lies propagated to paint one party as a villain. ‘One’s a lie and one’s the truth / One of ’em went down and one was made up / But in the end we both lose / Why can’t we meet in the middle?‘ It’s a soulful track both lyrically and sonically. ‘Girl’s Love’ is one of the grooviest tracks on the project that shakes up the production and sound – a necessary lift. If Tenpenny keeps on pulling on this sonic thread, then he is bound to continue to hit the top marks on the chart.

The project ends with two slow and lingering groovy tracks – ‘Don’t Let Me Let You’ a track about regrets and mistakes and letting go and ‘She Hates Me Too,’ where Tenpenny moves in a surprising direction, sharing war wounds with an ex’s new ex. ‘I know you don’t know me / But I know what you’re going through.’ Both tracks offer an easy, dripping melody.

The project is a rich showcase of Tenpenny’s husky vocal. Lyrically, none of the tracks match up to the strength of ‘Can’t Go To Church,’ yet sonically there are nods on the project of how Tenpenny could continue to evolve and push the boundaries of his own artistry into bold new directions.

ABOUT MITCHELL TENPENNY:
Since the release of his debut single, ‘Drunk Me’, Riser House/Columbia Nashville artist Mitchell Tenpenny has set new standards for breakout success in country music. The 2X Platinum-certified, No. 1 hit that has amassed over 500 million on-demand streams was taken from his introductory 2018 album, Telling All My Secrets, and earned him the best first week showing for any major label country debut LP. Since that time, the “winning” singer (the New York Times) was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards and Breakthrough Video (‘Drunk Me’) at the CMT Music Awards and saw his ‘Alcohol You Later’ and ‘Anything She Says’ singles certified gold.

Mitchell Tenpenny has released his new single – Truth About You – in response to overwhelming fan demand, after 2.5 million TikTok views. Stream/download ‘Truth About You’ here.

Rising country singer-songwriter Mitchell Tenpenny has released the latest brand new song from an as-yet untitled new EP coming out later this year. After a clip shared with fans on TikTok gained over 2.5 million views, ‘Truth About You’ was finally released earlier this month, and has already become the largest streaming debut of his career to date. The track sees Tenpenny yet again raise his game sonically and lyrically, showcasing just why he is an artist to watch on so many radars.

“We are nothing without the fans and we listen to everything they tell us,” said Mitchell. “This was a no brainer from the second we teased it because of the reaction and response from our incredible fans!”

Written by Mitchell, Matt Alderman and Thomas Archer, ‘Truth About You’ is the third new song Mitchell has released in 2021. It’s the follow up to SiriusXM’s The Highway Hot 30 #1 song ‘Bucket List’, which released in conjunction with the state of Arizona where Mitchell filmed the music video, and the critically praised ‘To Us It Did’ deemed a “must listen” and “marvellously energetic and charmingly written.” All three songs will appear on the upcoming EP.

Tenpenny is also confirmed to appear on a forthcoming collaboration with country superstar Chris Young, ‘At The End of A Bar’, having performed the duet for a huge crowd of hometown fans in Nashville as part of a video shoot over the 4th July holiday weekend.
